    ABS- CBN BROADCASTING NETWORK COMMERCIAL RATE IS HIGHER THAN ITS COMPETITOR GMA NETWORK

    According to Philippine Advertisers Association, the noontime block rate of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Network is costing 120, 000 Pesos per 10 seconds commercial load while GMA Network only rate 80, 000 Pesos per 10 seconds commercial.

    The Primetime of ABS-CBN commercial block is worth 160,000 Pesos per 10 seconds while GMA is 120, 000 Pesos.

    So, ABS-CBN is expensive than GMA because of its quality shows and at present advertisers do not rely on ratings because of some uncertainty of credibilty conducted by survey company.

    The advertisers in the Philippines spent billion of pesos through print ad, radio and television.

    Filipinos in Japan love to say “TFCko ‘to!”

    In less than two year’s, ABS-CBN Japan’s TFCko viewership reached to more than 15,000. More and more Filipinos and their Japanese kids and spouses are becoming addicted to the IPTV service – a grandfather competes for the remote with his brood; a mother makes TFCko her kid’s new nanny; a clique forgoes a regular night out to stay indoors for a TFCko screening; a store owner subscribes to TFCko to lure more customers; and a Japanese husband is caught watching a Tagalog program he doesn’t entirely understand but enjoys because of the sexy girls in it. What’s causing the TFCko craze?
    Technology That Works for the Customer

    For 14 years, Elizabeth Mazon Hosaka or Betchy has kept in touch with her sister in the Philippines just to find out what happened to her favorite ABS-CBN drama series. When she subscribed to TFCko, she realized how much she saved on long distance calls. She has also seen how TFCko helped her raise her daughter to learn Tagalog, the Philippine’s native language. Betchy says “naging yaya siya [TFCko] ng anak ko at saka Tagalog niya, hindi nawawala.” (TFCko has become my kid’s nanny and she never lost her Tagalog.)

    Cecile Roquero who owns “Nanay’s Lugaw” (Mother’s Porridge), a restaurant near the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo has seen how TFCko worked for her family and her business. Her Japanese husband Aokisan need not know Tagalog to appreciate the 24 sexy dancers of TFCko’s Deal or No Deal. Cecile, on the other hand, uses TFCko to entertain her customers while she’s busy managing her servers and running the kitchen. She willingly gives in to some of her customers’ requests whenever there are. “Minsan, tulad po ngayon, may mga customer na nanghingi sila ng programa na gusto nila panoorin… pagka ganyan po ginagamit namin diyan ang Video-On-Demand (VOD).” (Sometimes, like now, customers would ask for a program that they would like to watch… in such case, we use Video-On-Demand.)

    Like Cecile, Kristoper Lirio uses VOD, too. He is a highly technical guy who frequently uses the internet. He has been living in Japan for seven years, working day and night without any form of relaxation. When he learned about TFCko and its VOD feature he immediately subscribed to watch his favorite sports programs like the PBA, NCAA and UAAP, major basketball leagues in the Philippines. He said TFCko works for him not only because it has the shows he wants to see but also because “parang lang siyang DVD [player]. Play mo lang siya tapos i-stop mo kung may gagawin ka. Tapos balikan mo kaagad iyong shows mo. Wala kang mami-miss.” (It’s just like a DVD player. Play it then press stop if you need to do anything. You can go back to watching your shows right after. You won’t miss anything.)

    Operating on Internet Protocol TV, TFCko gives viewers personal access to their favorite shows anytime. A TFCko subscriber can choose which program to watch and with a remote control, fast-forward, rewind and pause whenever he/she wants.
    Technology That Binds a Family

    Dondon Pascual who has been in Japan for 16 years cheerfully narrates that upon coming home from work, it has become a contest for everyone in his family to grab the remote. As head of the family, Dondon prefers to watch TV Patrol to be updated with what is happening in the Philippines but his wife, children and grandchildren have their own favorite shows. He says “bahagi na ng buhay namin ang TFCko” (TFCko has become a part of our lives.)
    To Anjie Osonoi, a solo parent who has been away from home for 23 years finds a family in her closest friends. “One time na-invite ako ng mga barkada. May gimmick daw kami. Sabi ko, ‘saan?’ Sa bahay na lang daw. Then, pagdating ko doon… meron silang small kit na ginagawa. At sabi nila, ‘heto’ng bago nating gimmick… magluluto na lang tayo then kumain habang nanonood tayo ng TFCko’.” (One time, I was invited by my friends to a night out. I asked where and they said it will just be at someone’s house. When I arrived, they were setting up a small kit. They told me it’s the new night out… we’ll cook then eat while watching TFCko.) Anji adds that as a working mom who is miles away from her parents and siblings, working hard while taking care of her son can be so draining, physically and emotionally. She reveals, “higit sa lahat, nakakalungkot kasi maaalala mo ang mga mahal mo” (More than anything, it can be so sad because you tend to remember those you love.) But with TFCko she feels at home, “parang kasama ko pamilya ko manood [ng TFCko].” (It feels like I’m watching TFCko with my family.)

     Sampalok Awards Update: Marian and Dingdong lead poll

     Nicole Uysiuseng, so far, leads the race for the Worst Performance by an Actress receiving 35% of the total votes while Victor Aliwalas from Marimar is currently on the top for the Worst Performance by an actor with 43% of the total votes.

     Kapamilya TV Awards: Kahit Isang Saglit is the poll leader

     The Filipino-Malaysian co-production is truly phenomenal. Garnering 62% of the total votes, Kahit Isang Saglit leads the poll for the Best Drama category beating Betty La Fea(2nd), Lobo(3rd), Iisa Pa Lamang(4th) and Maging Sino Ka Man(5th).

     Lead actress, Malaysian superstar Carmen Soo also took the poll by storm as she currently leads with 53% of the total votes followed by Angel Locsin with 15%. Jericho Rosales, Kahit Isang Saglit main star, also took the lead for the Best Drama actor who received a whooping 79% followed by John Lloyd Cruzz with a dismal 11%.

     I heard of GMA’s new rating plug about their so-called leadership on the key cities in the Philippines. It sound absurd and misleading for the fact the ratings includes Mega Manila, Cebu, Iloilo, Dagupan and Davao.

     True, that it leads Mega Manila, but to create a picture that it also leads in Davao, Cebu and Iloilo is very misleading and piece of lies.

     No wonder…why they showed the plug in hurry manner to avoid deep contemplation on the message they wanted to give their idiot fans.

     For information…ABS-CBN got 60% audience share in Davao and leads also in Dagupan, Cebu and Iloilo. The truth of the matter is…GMA leads in Mega Manila with by far have larger population concentration in comparison to the mentioned cities.

     79 HOMES TAMPERED IN SIX CITIES

     Tin said AGB Nielsen provides nationwide TV ratings by tapping 1,670 “metered” homes all over the country. “Usually, to get a base of 1,670 homes, you would need at least a 10 to 20 percent buffer so it’s closer to 2000, about 1800 homes,” she said.

     Tin said AGB Nielsen conducted its own investigation and found at least 79 of its metered homes that were breached by another network(GMA Network).

     In her affidavit, Reforma said the 79 were among 532 metered homes in six cities INTERVIEWED BY THE RESEARCH FIRM to CONFIRM the alleged bribery attempts. She said the 532 homes comprised 100 percent of all AGB Nielsen metered homes in the six cities.

     Of the 79 tampered homes, 27 were from Iloilo, 18 were from Bacolod, 12 from Cebu, 13 in Davao, four in Dagupan and five in Cagayan de Oro.

     She said all 79 panel homes admitted being exposed to “activities” of GMA Network, the main competitor of ABS-CBN, She said the panel homes were persuaded to watch GMA shows in exchange for monthly prizes including P500 in cash, groceries, umbrellas, pens and medicine.

     “Panel homes who declare themselves to be watching ABS-CBN are asked to become a member of the GMA Kapuso viewers in order to receive a monthly supply of groceries and P500,” she said, describing one of the activities.

     She added that of the 79 homes, 63 homes were visited once while 16 were visited twice or more times.

     She said statistical tests conducted by AGB Nielsen showed that 16 of the 79 homes “showed a significant change to favor GMA in its viewing behavior.”

     She noted, however, that the evidence obtained by AGB Nielsen “strongly indicates that the tampering was confined to Bacolod and for the period from July to September 2007.”

     She said the research firm reprocessed all the original data it gathered from the TAM panel while excluding the tampered households contacted by GMA Network. “Based on our evaluation, AGB Nielsen found that viewing data did not significantly change even after the exclusion of the contacted panels from the original data,” she said.

     She said, however, that the exclusion of 12 tampered homes in Cebu “caused some days to expected drop for GMA [ratings] but not at the expense of ABS-CBN which remained the same.”

     She said the firm also commissioned a coincidental survey involving thousands of survey respondents in various cities and provinces. “The coincidental survey confirmed that viewing trends/patterns were consistent with panel data in respect to the GMA, ABS and Overall viewing levels,” she said.

     Reforma said AGB Nielsen has replaced the 79 tampered homes from its TAM panel. “We are also considering removing Iloilo as a sampling point,” she added.

     She said the research firm is also consulting with industry stakeholders “to develop clear guidelines to broadcasters regarding their activities.”

     Tin said that from a sampling standpoint, 79 tampered homes from 532 homes in six cities is significant.

     “That’s about 14.8 percent of the 532 homes. [AGB Nielsen] says that it has no impact on the data. I don’t think they have grounds to say that until they replace all those homes and rerun and they can only do that after checking the entire panel,” she said.

     She also pointed out that a one percent difference in the ratings is significant because of the size of the broadcasting business. “A small percent is a big amount of money so it’s very hard to make judgment on what is big or what is small,” she added.

     She said the breach also opens up questions about current and future effects of tampering. “Once your homes are identified, you don’t know where and when they are going be visited. It’s not only a current breach, there’s going to be a continuing breach because the identity is already out.” she said.

     “So the important thing is to clean, identify everyone in the national panel that was breached and clean the panel homes,” she added.

     They blatantly disrespect KBP, the organization that is all encompasssing. lahat ng media ay member nito except sila. It is a regulating body to ensure that the consumer is protected agains overloading of ads and making sure other channels get airtime ads as well. Biruin mo, swapang na, nagmamatigas pa.

     GMA 7 is in a hole. A big hole. Parang ENRON. They say everything is fine but deep inside, its an abyss of kapalpakan and mistakes. Its hard to run a TV station, but by golly, ABS-CBN has run it well. It may have a few problems management wise, like all companies do. But they have the balls to do run it.      Can an award-giving body in the broadcasting industry like the KBP Golden Dove Awards still claim prestige and excellence when, in fact, today’s leading television network, ratings and profit-wise, GMA Network, is no longer a part of it? As such, how could the KBP claim that the organization honors the best and the brightest when it could only recognize the shows and stars of the second best?

     YES, THAT’S TRUE!!! GMA always win an international award exposing real or reel situations happening in the Philippines. Doing such documentary is a great journalist masterpiece. But I ask you, after the awards, what happened to the situation? Did it influence the government or concerned entities to give solution to the problem? Or GMA is only after the awards…there is nothing wrong with such award but I want situation thereafter it was exposed. BANTAY-BATA is a legitimate UNICEF-recognized program, BANTAY-KALIKASAN, etc.. which are often ignore by Filipinos but it’s doing great for the welfare of ALL. Isn’t it great that while doing a reality show, they also have the chance doing a fund drive to help some people or group of people. And if you still insist – who has more international exposure with regards to entertainers, actors and actresses? The trouble with you kapuso is that you only recognize Metro Manila that gives you high ratings.
