Posted by: iostream @ 9:34 pm in: Sports (1,038 views) August 27th, 2007Philippines’ Randy “Komong Bato” Suico and Jimrex Jaca were able to retain their titles against their Japanese opponents in the co-mainer of the “Battle for Supremacy: Philippines versus Japan” card at the Mall of Asia.
27-year old Randy Suico, the reigning Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) lightweight champion retained his title with an eighth round knockout over his challenger Koji Samejima of Japan. On the other hand, WBO super featherweight champion Jimrex Jaca barely held on to his title with a controversial technical draw at 2:17 of the second round agianst Japan’s Ryu Miyagi when the ring physician ruled that Jaca couldn’t continue because of two cuts caused by head-butts.

In an all-action fight, Filipino Wyndel Janiola eked out a hard-fought and disputed split decision win over a very durable Hiroyuki Hisataka. Noriyuki Komatsu and Roy Doliguez figured in a technical draw after the Japanese fighter was cut in the first round.
Danilo Pena prevailed on a third-round TKO over Marvin Tampus in what was the night’s best fight; Jonathan Ba-at and Eric Rapada ended up in a technical draw; Roel Laguna stopped Mervin Batolina in the opening round; Jayson Siaton TKO’d Alvin Gonzalez in the first; Ali Cali edged out Richard Donaire by unanimous decision; and Rodolfo Sumabong prevailed on a majority decision over Ronel De la Pena.

Randy Suico seems to be making a comeback. He seems to have adjusted to the lightweight division. He has power so Philippine boxing may soon have another world champion.
