Philippines’ 35-year-old Gerry Penalosa (52-6-2, 35 KOs) won by KO over Mexico’s 25-year-old WBO bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (34-6, 29 KOs) with one body punch in a fight that moved steadily toward Gonzalez.

During the seventh round, Gonzalez hit Penalosa with a left-right combination but Penalosa ducked under him and hit Gonzalez’s side with a powerful left hand punch. Gonzalez stepped back in disbelief before he crumpled to his knees, and the champ couldn’t get his arms off the ropes before referee Pat Russell’s count.

Gonzalez, who led on two judges’ scorecards and all punch stats when he went down, wants a rematch, but at 122 pounds.
